i just learnt who decides on who gets an oscar and it’s definately NOT cool. according to an article by the los angeles times, the voters – the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences – are 94% white, 77% male and 54% over 60. how is this acceptable in today’s world?
so as we go into Oscar weekend, this doesn’t come as a shock but it definately comes as a disappointment. the arts need to be the place where diversity is ensured, celebrated and welcomed. thumbs-down to the Oscars and change needs to come. who brings about that change in this old institution? of that, i actually don’t know. but within my own place of influence, i choose to ensure and welcome diversity. you?
